A LONG-SERVING care home worker has retired after more than 30 years in the business.

Lana Howell worked in care homes in the south of the country before moving to Springfield Care Home, in Wylam Avenue, Darlington, six years ago.

The 61-year-old initially worked as a night carer for the home’s 30 residents before working in the laundry department with head housekeeper, Elaine Wright.

Personal activities leader at the care home, Mags Avey said: “She will be sadly missed. She was very hardworking and committed to everything she did.

“She was brilliant with the residents and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”

Staff and residents at the care home presented her with flowers and chocolate at a special retirement presentation in January.
