AN assault victim has lost his fight for life, ten days after being attacked in a York street.

Keith Wright, 50, died in Leeds General Infirmary at 9am today, January 31, after being on a life support machine.

He had been left with critical injuries after being attacked on Acomb Road in Acomb, York, at about 7.40pm on January 21.

Two people, Liam Matthew Wyard, 19, and a 16-year-old youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, were later arrested.

They have been charged with unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm – however police are now working with the Crown Prosecution Service to re-examine that charge in the wake of Mr Wright’s death.

Detective Inspector Ian Dyer said: “Our thoughts are with Keith’s family who are naturally devastated by the terrible outcome at hospital.

“This is an extremely tragic incident and we are doing everything we can to support them as we work hard to secure justice for Keith.”
