THE hunt to find a hit-and-run driver who left a mother-of-two fighting for her life at the side of a road has been stepped up.

North Yorkshire Police officers have launched Facebook and Twitter appeals and delivered leaflets to 300 homes in Colburn, near Catterick Garrison, in an attempt to trace the driver of a small dark-coloured car who failed to stop after the collision on Forest Drive.

After a shop worker returning home found Rosina Seabright, 39, with multiple injuries and struggling to breath at 10.10pm on Saturday (January 26), she was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

Ms Seabright, who has two daughters, remains in the intensive care unit in a serious, but stable condition.

Shortly before she was found, a witness reported seeing a car speeding along the residential road at 50 to 60mph.

Police are appealing to the driver of the car involved in the collision and anyone else who was in the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Saturday to contact them.

They are also appealing to any garages who have been asked to repair a small dark-coloured car with damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian.

Traffic Constable Tony Leonard said: “Firstly I appeal direct to the person who was driving the car at the time.

“It must be weighing very heavily on your conscience and I urge you to do the right thing, and contact the police as soon as possible.

“I also appeal to anyone who knows who was responsible, they may have confided in someone who may be holding back information. Please do what you know is right and contact us without delay."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
