SCORES of children will take to the streets of Darlington dressed in onesies to raise money for a toddler fighting cancer.

Darlington schoolfriends Natasha Geach, 13 and Lucy Wade, 14, wanted to help the fundraising campaign to send three-year-old Ruby Hodgson of Redcar to America for vital cancer treatment.

The pair came up with the idea of a sponsored ‘onesie walk’ through Darlington on February 17 and so far 200 youngsters have pledged their support via facebook.

Natasha said she was delighted with the response and hoped the walk would raise more than £1,000 for the cause.

Mum Jennifer said she was pleased her daughter was keen to fundraise, but admitted she was concerned when she heard that up to 200 children could be taking part.

She said: “I was a bit worried when Natasha told me how many children were joining in so I went straight to the police station and then to the council to make sure that it would be okay to have that many children involved.

“They said it’s okay, so I’ll be going along and wearing my onesie too!”

The seven-mile circular walk will start at noon from the Shuttle and Loom pub on Whinfield Road and travel along Haughton Road, through the town centre, up North Road and back across to the pub.
