ELECTRICITY engineers say they have fixed a fault which had resulted in a section of Barnard Castle town centre being plagued by power supply problems.

Dozens of homes and businesses in part of Galgate had been plagued by the intermittent loss of electricity for months, most recently on two days last week.

The affected properties were on the north side of Galgate, between Spitfire Cycles and the post office.

Despite the cold snap at the end of last week, engineers from Northern Powergrid located the source of the fault at the junction of Galgate and Flatts Road.

A spokeswoman said: “Following work on Friday afternoon, we were able to carry out repairs on Friday evening.

“We would like to apologise to all our customers who were affected by the problems with the power supply and thank them for their patience while we worked to locate and repair the fault.”
