MOUNTAIN bikers have shown their gratitude to mountain rescuers by raising cash for the cause.
Members of Guisborough MTB,a mountain biking club, presented a cheque for £1,100 to Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team today (Sunday, January 27.
The money was raised when 50 members of the club held a fancy dress cycle ride through Guisborough Forest in December.
The cyclists, aged from seven to 60 dressed up as Santa Claus’, Christmas trees and fairy tale characters for the ride raising money.
The cheque was handed over at Pinchinthorpe Visitor’s Centre by club member Rory Spence to mountain team leader Mal Selby.
"The team has to raise £25,000 a year running costs by charitable," explained a spokesman for the rescue team, who also expressed gratitute to the cyclists.
Last year, Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team helped 12 mountain bikers out of 42 call-outs. The rescuers have been called out six times so far this year.
