IMPROVEMENTS are being proposed at a Camping and Caravanning Club site in Teesdale.

Plans for a new children's play park, caravan storage area, extension to the internal road and landscaping work have been submitted to Durham County Council for the club's site close to Lartington, near Barnard Castle.

The club says it wants to improve its existing facilities and provide a better service to its members and holidaymakers.

The planning application points out there would be no increase in the current 90 existing pitches for touring caravans at the 5.5 hectare site, which is about about 2.5 miles to the west of Barnard Castle.

The children's play area would include a climbing frame, plastic slide and rope ladder, while the internal road serving the site would be extended by almost 100m.

New landscaping is planned for around the proposed storage area.

The closing date for any observations on the scheme is February 7.

The Camping and Caravanning Club is the world's oldest and largest organisation catering for all forms of camping with more than 500,000 members.
