Have your say on £30m leisure development

MEMBERS of the public will be able to have their say on plans for a £30m leisure development when the proposals go on display for the first time.

Plans for The Feethams Leisure scheme include a nine-screen cinema, 80-bedroom hotel, bars and restaurants.

Announced in November, the plans for the former bus station site in heart of Darlington town centre bring the potential for economic regeneration and hundreds of jobs.

Councillor Bill Dixon, leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: "The proposed Feethams Leisure development will see major investment in our borough from the private sector and is an exciting opportunity for us all.

"The public exhibition day will give local people the chance to see the proposed plans in more detail and share their views on the proposed development. I do hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to get involved."

A public exhibition showing the complex in more detail will go on display at the Dolphin Centre, on Saturday, February 2, from 9am to 3pm.

Im all in favour of a modern multiscreen cinema but why do we need restaurants, bars and a hotel as well??? This isnt Newcastle the party capital of the North, or is that what the council wants?

A ten pin bowling centre would be a viable option, plus it would redirect trade from Teeside Park.

The more facilities the better, more jobs, more income.A more exciting town.Just what Darlington needs. We just need to see the things being started. The other redevelopments Queen St ,Central Park and the old Feethams Football ground, and the large department stores coming into town .Seem to have been talked about for several years. We need this injection of excitement and a chance to move forward. We've had enough doom and gloom this last 5 years.

I think bowling would be a good idea, much more so than a hotel! I'll bet the King's Head aren't happy...

When are the council going to listen? We need better, cheaper parking and new shops - not pound shops or charity shops - to come into the town. Make Darlington unique, special and a place people want to visit again and again.
