RESIDENTS in Richmondshire are being invited to nominate their unsung heroes for an award.

Richmondshire District Council’s Making a Difference in Richmondshire awards recognise individuals and businesses that have made a significant contribution.

Now in its sixth year, the scheme covers everything from volunteer, employee and carer of the year to business and community group of the year. For the first time there is a prize for the parish council project of the year.

Council leader Councillor John Blackie: “There are so many people in the district who do remarkable things – often without giving it a second thought.

“These awards give our unsung heroes the praise they so richly deserve, so please let us know if you know of a project, organisation or individual which is worthy of recognition even if you are unsure of which category it fits in to.”

Nominations are open in nine categories: young person of the year – for anyone 25 or under; volunteer; carer; community group/initiative; sustainable project; green project; parish council project; business; and employee of the year.

Any individual, group or organisation can make a nomination. Forms are available at www.richmondshire.gov.uk/news-and-publications.aspx or any district council community office in Richmond, Leyburn, Colburn, Reeth and Hawes.

Alternatively contact Sarah Jenkins, democratic services officer on 01748-827090. The closing date for nominations is February 22. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in March.
