Weight-lifters can help swell charity coffers
12:53pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News
BODY-BUILDERS in Darlington can flex their muscles in a competition this weekend and help raise funds for a military charity at the same time.
Muscle City, a new gym opening in the Faverdale area of the town next month, is holding a contest between 10am and 1pm on Saurday (January 26), to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
Owner Kieran Meredith said: “This charity is very close to our hearts and we want to raise money as well as awareness for the charity.
“The competition is open to everyone and it is £5 to enter with all the proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
“It will consist of three separate exercises: firstly, the farmers’ walk track – carry your own body weight down the 20 metre course in the fastest time.
“The second exercise is the most pull-ups you can do in one minute.
“The third exercise is to bench press your own body weight for as many reps possible.
“Each competitor will receive a combined score with the winner receiving a trophy, a selection of protein supplements and pride.
“This competition will be a fun day for all and will hopefully raise more awareness for Help for Heroes.”
