Cycle track: The North York Mors National Park is to develop a 4.5km cycle track at Sutton Bank, near Thirsk. It will use existing bridleways as well as a newly-created off-road trail. It will run through a softwood plantation on forest management tracks, and an area currently covered with heather, crowberry and grass The surface material of the track will be limestone from Newbridge Quarry, Pickering.

Theatre scheme: A £4m refurbishment of York Theatre Royal is set to go ahead after the venue won vital backing from the Arts Council. The theatre is likely to receive £2.9m in lottery funding towards the project, which will include enclosing and glazing in the colonnade in St Leonard’s Place to double the size of the entrance and cafe areas. The plans also involve major changes inside the auditorium.
