Judge adjourns bail appeal on teenager charged with Stokesley death by dangerous driving

AN APPEAL against a decision to grant bail to a 15-year-old accused of death by dangerous driving will be heard on February 1.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested after a Range Rover was involved in a collision with pedestrian Douglas Scott Robertson, 27, as he walked along North Road in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, on Saturday.

The teenager appeared at Northallerton Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday, January 22) charged with causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence and without insurance.

Magistrates granted him bail, but the Crown Prosecution Service immediately lodged an appeal.

Today (Wednesday, January 23), a judge in chambers at Teesside Crown Court adjourned the appeal against the bail application until February 1, when a decision will be made whether or not to remand the defendant in custody while he awaits trial.

Delton O'Neill, 18, from Sowerby Crescent, Stokesley, also appeared in court yesterday (Tuesday, January 22) in connection with the incident.

He was charged with aggravated vehicle taking, allowing himself be carried in a vehicle that had been taken. He was granted conditional bail.

A third man, aged 23, arrested on Monday night in connection with the incident, remains in police custody.

A 48-year-old man, from Brompton-on-Swale, North Yorkshire, is due in court on February 8, charged with obstructing investigating police.
