Community Council looks at future development plans for Middlesbrough

COMMUNITY COUNCIL: THE next meeting of Nunthorpe Community Council will take place on Tuesday, January 29 at 7pm at Nunthorpe Institute in the Avenue Primary School, Nunthorpe. Officers from Middlesbrough Council will be giving information about the Local Development Framework which outlines the Council’s Preferred Options on identifying land for future development at sites around the town, including some in Nunthorpe. CLASSICAL PIANIST: Jessica Wei Zhu, a Chinese-American pianist, travels to the North-east for a piano recital where she will perform music by Schubert, Ravel and Debussy at Sir William Turner's Almshouses in Kirkleatham Village, near Redcar, on Friday, February 1 at 7.30pm. Tickets, costing £12.50, are available from G.BizIT computers in Marske-by-the-sea and from Greensleeves Music shop in Guisborough.

MINI DISPLAY: Cleveland Miniaturists will take part in the opening of the Newport Settlement Community Hub, St Paul’s Road, Middlesbrough, on Thursday, January 31, from 2pm to 6pm. The group will display a selection of miniature crafts.

AUSCHWITZ EDUCATION: Two students from Guisborough’s Prior Pursglove College chosen to visit Auschwitz as part of the Holocaust Education Trust are holding an educational event to share their experience of the visit on Thursday, January 24 at 6pm in the college’s new Applegarth building where head teachers and pupils from local schools have been invited to attend. Lorna Metcalfe, 17 from Skelton and Killian Craddock, 17, from Saltburn, have put together a collection of poems, photos and individual stories about the Holocaust which they would like to share with others.
