POLICE have renewed an appeal for witnesses to an incident in which a train guard was threatened and grabbed by the neck.

Extensive inquiries have been carried out into the attack on the guard at Darlington station, on Saturday, December 15.

The guard on the Cross Country service from Southampton to Newcastle was assaulted following an argument over tickets with a group of six men.

Earlier this month, British Transport Police (BTP) released CCTV images of two men they are keen to question.

PC Tony McGhin, of BTP, who is investigating the incident, describing it as a “cowardly attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job”.

Anyone with information is asked to call BTP, on 0800-40-5-0 40, quoting reference B7/NEA of 31/12/2012 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
