A WASTE management and recycling company has been praised for its health and safety performance after receiving a nationally recognised award.

yorwaste, based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, has been awarded accreditation from Safecontractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety.

It follows a vetting process which examined Yorwaste’s health and safety management systems and its track record for safe practice.

Companies that meet the standard are included on a national database which can be viewed by organisations issuing new tendering opportunities, as well as insurers reviewing company liability policies.

Yorwaste’s Health, Safety and Environmental Quality Manager, Peter Frankish, said: “The accreditation enhances our ability to attract new contracts as most of the organisations we work with are looking for evidence of robust health and safety risk management procedures being in place.

“Given the nature of our business, we have a duty of care to our employees, sub-contractors and the public to ensure all the sites managed across the region are operating to the very highest standards of health and safety, so we are delighted to receive this accreditation.”

John Kinge, technical director of Safecontractor said: "More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Yorwaste has done.

"The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector."
