A man needed more than 60 stitches to the face after being attacked on Friday.
An ambulance had to be called to the Nag's Head pub on the High Street, Lazenby, near Redcar, where the man was found with a severe laceration to his face.
It is believed he was the victim of an attack which took place at around 8pm, shortly after he left the pub.
Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident and ask that anyone with information contact Redcar and Cleveland police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
