PEOPLE are being encouraged to put their best foot forward for charity and make an active start to the New Year.

The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Denise Bunn, has organised two walks at Guisborough Forest and Walkway, near Pinchinthorpe, for Sunday, January 6.

A six-mile trek will begin at 10.30am, with a walk round a two-mile route getting under way at 11.30am.

The walks will be raising money for the Mayor's charities - Macmillan Cancer Support, Parkinson's UK and Saltburn Animal Rescue Association.

Individuals will need to raise a minimum of £5 in sponsorship or £10 for families.

Councillor Bunn said: "I'd love to see as many people as possible taking part in these walks, which will be great for shaking off some of the festive season excesses and are also raising money for three fantastic causes."

To register for the event or for further information contact Neil Thirkell on 01287-631132 or Jane Holmes on 01642-444501. Walkers can also register on the day.
