Teesdale news in brief
12:57pm Monday 17th December 2012 in News By Stuart Laundy, Reporter (Barnard Castle & Teesdale)
DRUGS CLAMPDOWN: Police accompanied by a sniffer dog visited five pubs in Barnard Castle town centre on Saturday evening. A number of people were searched, but no drugs were found. Sergeant Simon Rogers, of Barnard Castle police, thanked those enjoying a drink at the pubs for their co-operation during the operation. “There were no arrests but this sent a message that we will be carrying out further operations in future,” he said.
SPEEDWATCH OPERATION: Just one motorist was caught driving too fast during a month-long initiative to tackle speeding in two Teesdale villages. The Speedwatch operation was carried out in Cotherstone and Eggleston.
SHOPPERS' WARNING: Christmas shoppers in Barnard Castle have been warned not to leave goods and valuables where they can be seen in vehicles. The town's police say presents should be locked away in the boot if possible or covered up.
