Best yet: The Pickering branch of Yorkshire Cancer Research had their best ever supermarket collection, raising £1,093 at the local Co-op earlier this month. Fundraising officer Graham Higgins said: “This is a magnificent result in these hard times and we are really grateful for the generous support shown by Co-op customers.”

Festive concert: Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band is to hold its Christmas concert on Sunday in the town’s Memorial Hall, at 7.30pm. The concert is free, with a retiring collection for the Scouts
