Darlington news in brief

GARDEN MEETING: The Salters Community Garden Association will hold its monthly meeting on Monday (December 17), at 7.15pm, at Harrowgate Hill Club. Local residents are welcome to attend.

WARD SURGERY: Harrowgate Hill ward councillors Marjory Knowles and John Vasey will hold a street surgery on Saturday (December 15), between 9.30am and 11.30am, in the Davison Road, Bensham Road and The Leas areas of the ward. Stop signs, for residents wanting the councillors to call at their house, will be delivered on Thursday and Friday.

HEALTH BOARD: Darlington Borough Council’s health and partnerships scrutiny committee will be held on Tuesday (December 18), at 9.30am, at the town hall.

CHARITY NIGHTS: The Akbar Dynasty curry restaurant, on the A66, near Sadberge, has re-opened following an extensive refurbishment. Two charity nights have been held, with the Great North Air Ambulance among the beneficiaries.

HOLY NIGHT: A Christingle service will be held at St Herbert’s Church, in Yarm Road, at 6pm, on Christmas Eve. There will be a nativity play and collection in aid of the Children’s Society. It will be followed, at 11.30pm, with a Christmas service.

STAR GAZING: The Cleveland and Darlington Astronomical Society will meet on Friday (December 14), at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start, at the Planetarium, Wynyard Woodland Park, Thorpe ThewlesTS21 3JG. Professor Andrew Levan, of Warwick University, will give a talk. Admission is £1.50 for adults and £1 for children.

LIVE MUSIC: Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, a tribute band, will perform at Darlington Civic Theatre, on Wednesday, February 20. Tickets cost £22.50 and are available from ticketmaster.co.uk or by calling 0844-844-0444.
