DOCTORS with a talent for general knowledge have donated their winnings from an inter-surgery quiz to a North-East charity.

The brainy bunch from Orchard Court Surgery, in Darlington, beat off competition from doctors across the town and Newton Aycliffe to scoop the prize of more than £400.

After winning the quiz for the third time, the team of doctors, nurses and admin staff have raised about £1,200 for their chosen charity - Age UK Darlington and their befriending service.

The scheme aims to combat loneliness in later life by partnering up volunteers with isolated elderly people to give them somebody to talk to on a regular basis.

Senior befriending officer at Age UK Darlington, Susan Carter said: “It is fantastic that they have donated their winnings to us for a third time.

“The money will go an awful long way to help our befriending service and we are all very grateful for any donations.”

Practice manager, Karen Fuat said: “We do it every year as it is a bit of fun and it is nice to raise some money for a good cause.

“The work Age UK does in Darlington is fantastic and it is great to be able to support it.”
