POLICE are searching for a good Samaritan who intervened in a group attack on Friday.

A 25-year-old was assaulted by a group of six youths on Bridge End Close in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough.

He had been walking with friends along a footpath near to St Mary’s Social Club and was approached by the group, who left him with head and facial injuries after kicking and punching him.

The attack was only stopped when a passer-by confronted the group and caused them to run off. Police would like to speak to the man, who was wearing an orange coloured high visibility jacket, as they believe he may be able to assist with enquiries.

Anyone else with information about the incident, which happened at around 11pm, should contact PC Carolann Warnock of Redcar and Cleveland Police on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
