YOUNG people can ready themselves for a military life thanks to new courses being launched in Teesside.

A Military Preparation Course that has been launched in Middlesbrough will offer specialist training to help 16 to 24-year-olds prepare for army life.

The course will be led by an ex-military tutor and will focus on fitness, discipline, teamwork, leadership and communication.

Students will take part in activities like map reading and circuit training and will be given the opportunity to learn about basic first aid, health and hygiene and camouflage and concealment.

Those taking part will also be encouraged to work towards formal qualifications and develop their English, maths and ICT skills. They may also benefit from a bursary payment of up to £1,200 a year as well as free gym membership and travel expenses.

The course is being run by Rathbone, a voluntary youth sector organisation that provides opportunities for young people. For more information, contact Diane Baister on 01642 211019 or diane.baister@rathboneuk.org
