THE Duke of York today (Wednesday, December 5) attended a thanksgiving service at York Minster with soldiers who have returned from Afghanistan.

About 500 soldiers from 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, marched through the city, to York Minster, where a service was held attended by the Duke and the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

The battalion has just returned from a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, providing support to 12 Mechanized Brigade. Ten of their soldiers were killed on operations and their families were invited to the parade and service.

The Duke of York attended as colonel-in-chief of the Yorkshire Regiment.

During the Thanksgiving service the Warminster Military Wives Choir sang.
