A DARLINGTON charity group helped to bring festive cheer to a supermarket as they serenaded shoppers with Christmas carols.

The chorus of more than 20 members of Darlington Town Mission braved the cold weather to sing traditional carols to customers at Sainsburys, on Victoria Road, Darlington.

Throughout the impromptu concert, shoppers put down their baskets and joined in with the group, who were raising money for the charity which offers help and support to elderly or lonely residents in Darlington.

Trustee and a key fundraiser at the charity, Brian Tyreman, said: “It was a great afternoon and people were clapping and singing along with us.

“We are hoping to raise more than £100 which for us is a lot of money.”

The choir will be performing at Morrisons, on North Road, tomorrow (Thursday, December 6) from 2pm and any money donated at the performance will go towards the charity.
