A FAMILIAR figure will be making his presence felt this Christmas – one Ebenezer Scrooge.

Actor Chris Cade will be donning many outfits to tell a short version of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol.

And for an authentic touch he will be performing in the appropriate Victorian setting of Kirkgate, the Victorian street in York’s Castle Museum, where the shops will be traditionally decorated and packed with festive goodies.

Museum manager Helen Young said: “Many of the Christmas traditions we have today were first made popular in the Victorian period. “

A Christmas Carol will be performed at intervals throughout the day on the weekends of December 8 and 9, 15 and 16 and then from December 17 to 24.

The museum is open from 9.30am to 5pm every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Admission price is £8 for adults, £7 concessions and children get in FREE with one paying adult.
