WORK to re-create a ditch to prevent motorcyclists from riding through a Darlington nature reserve is now expected to start in the new year.
The Maidendale Nature Reserve, off Salters Lane, remains a policing priority for the Eastbourne area and community officers regularly patrol it to deter off-road motorcyclists from using the land.
A ditch which has been worn flat was identified as an easy access point for the motorcyclists and members of the nature reserve trust agreed that it should be deepened and widened to make it harder for the bikers to get into the reserve.
The work was hoped to have been started by now, but other work commitments have meant that the service employed to carry it out are now unable to do it until January 2013.
