TEN pieces of students' artwork have been put on display at a historic market hall in a North-East town.

Art students at Darlington Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College created the project, ‘Art in the doorways,’ with examples of their work going on display at the town's Covered Market.

Their task was to create art work for the market entrances, for visitors to enjoy when entering the building.

Vacant shop units in the outside of market hall on West Row initially displayed an exhibition of ideas in the windows.

Visitors voted for ten winning designs that are now being displayed in the hall entrance of Victorian market.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for arts, said: “This is a great project which helps local students try their hand at creating artwork for live exhibitions – ideal for building up working experience of meeting a design brief and deadlines and great for their CV when looking to progress on to art college.”
