THE DUKE of York will return to his adopted city this week as 500 soldiers recently back from Afghanistan parade through the streets.

The Duke will be in on Wednesday, December 5, York as colonel-in-chief of the Yorkshire Regiment and will be joined by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, to take the salute.

The 500 soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, will march from Tower Street to Duncombe Place for an inspection and salute before moving to York Minster for a thanksgiving service.

The soldiers have returned from a six-month tour of duty, providing support to 12 Mechanized Brigade in Helmand Province. Ten of their soldiers were killed on operations and their families have been invited to the parade and service.

The parade, led by the Band of the King’s Division, starts at 12.40 pm from Tower Street, along Coney Street to halt on Duncombe Place at approximately 1pm.
