PLANS SHELVED: Multi-million pound plans to build a “super-care home” in Fulford, on the outskirts of York, have been abandoned due to increased flooding risks and other environmental factors. The City of York Council says the Fordlands site is no longer viable for the 55-bed scheme and has now identified a potential alternative site in the grounds of Burnholme Community College, which will close in 2014. Discussions between the council and the Environment Agency revealed the site was at greater risk of flooding than at first thought.

NEWS WELCOMED: Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh says she welcomes news that the government has appointed the contract for DVLA counter services to the Post Office. She said: “This is great news for Post Offices in rural areas and will secure their business in the months and years to come.”
