ALMOST 2,000 children from all over the region received vital safety information and advice during the course of a two-week campaign at a North Yorkshire airbase.

RAF Leeming hosted more than 80 schools over a fortnight as part of the 2012 Crucial Crew Campaign.

The campaign, organised by Hambleton District Council and the police, has been running in the county for around 20 years and provides valuable safety information to youngsters on how to deal with emergencies and stay safe.

The children, aged between nine and 11, received vital instruction on subjects ranging from building site and farms to road safety and safety in the home.

They also received guidance on dealing with specific emergency situations and how to call the emergency services for help.
