FOUR Darlington families are looking forward to a fitter life after coming to the end of a course designed to encourage exercise and a healthier lifestyle.

The families have each completed the MEND programme, Mind Exercise Nutrition Do it, a ten-week course run by the council’s sports development team alongside the NHS health improvement team. The course looks at ways to lead healthier lifestyles, including physical activity sessions, food education and theory on lifestyle changes.

The programme supports children aged seven to 13 who are above a healthy weight, and their families, to become fitter and healthier through twice-weekly sessions.

Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and partnerships said: “MEND helps families make small changes to their lifestyle that improves their health in the long-term. It is brilliant that these four families have followed the programme and are now enjoying the benefits that will see them enjoy better health and wellbeing.”
