A RALLYCROSS star is using her sporting drive to tackle the world of business as she secures the skills she will one day need to run a team.

Paige Bellerby, a Darlington College student from Little Langton, near Northallerton, was the youngest British champion in her class, securing the junior title at just 14.

Now aged 16 she hopes to compete in the European Rallycross Championships one day but also wants to learn about the business side of the popular sport and to that end she is studying a Level 3 Btec Diploma in Business.

Paige and her Suzuki Swift are following in the tyre tracks of her father Dave who has competed in the sport for many years.

“I was brought up on quads where you can drift the back end out,” said Paige.

“The Swift is front wheel drive which feels different but I have been getting to grips with it and have been steadily improving.

“But as I move through the sport I also want to understand the business side, such as sponsorship, and could then set up a rallycross school of my own.”

College tutor Phil Knowles said: “It is easy to see why Paige is so successful in her racing as her determination and drive transfer to her studies.

“Securing a business qualification can only stand her in good stead especially if she hopes one day to run her own operation.”
