EIGHT charity runners will take part in a North Yorkshire alternative to the New York Marathon, following the cancellation of the event due to Hurricane Sandy.
A group of runners who had been due to compete in the 26-mile race earlier this month will complete their own version of the race on Sunday (December 2), by running from New York village, near Summerbridge, North Yorkshire, to St Michael’s Hospice, in Harrogate.
The runners are determined to fulfil their promise to people who sponsored them more than £30,000 for the hospice charity.
Runner Patrick Dunlop said: “We completely understand why the New York Marathon was unable to take place in 2012 and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.”
Donations can be made through Justgiving or via mobile phone by texting 'NYNY12' and the amount to 70070.
