IT’S a big job – but somebody’s got to do it.

Staff at one of the region’s leading attractions really had their work cut out yesterday – wrapping a full-size steam engine for Christmas.

They were ensuring that Teddy the loco was in truly festive mode for Santa’s Steam Adventure at the National Railway Museum in York.

From this weekend visitors will be able to take a seasonal ride on a working steam train and help Santa find his missing presents.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between November 29 and December 23, families will begin their seasonal journey through the museum’s Station Hall which has been transformed into a magical depot filled with Yuletide decorations.

And following the success of last year’s winter treat, the museum is pulling out all the stops to make 2012 a Christmas to remember.

Santa’s Depot is on track to be even more magical this year with plenty of decorations, twinkling lights, activities to entertain the children and a new story to get involved in.

Santa’s helpers will then climb on board a festive carriage pulled by Teddy the steam train and snuggle up in blankets to take part in a special interactive story telling session.

Before the steam journey is over, children will meet Santa Claus himself and receive a special present to take home. Adults will also be treated to a hot drink and mince pie in the museum’s restaurant to warm them up.

Bookings are now being taken for the event and members of the public are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as places fill up quickly. Visit nrm.org.uk/christmas or call 0844-8153139. Tickets: £10 for children aged one to 15 and £6 adult.
