TWO Northern Echo readers will be able to keep up with latest news from across the North-East after winning a digital device.

Tina Greensmith, of Willington, in County Durham, and Julie Young, from Darlington, were chosen as the winners of an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, from more than 1,500 entries.

The competition was held to mark The Northern Echo becoming one of the first newspapers in the country to be available on the Kindle Fire.

The service offers subscribers instant touch-screen access to news from across the region in digital editions of the newspaper.

Subscription for the Kindle Fire apps follow existing price plans for the iPad and iPhone apps, which start from £4.99 a month.
