THE A1 northbound has reopened after earlier being closed because of flooding.

The road was shut northbound near Catterick Village, in North Yorkshire, to allow fire crews on to the carriageway to pump water off the road, however it reopened at 3pm. Police say one lane remains closed.

The southbound carriageway remains open, although there is considerable standing water. Motorists have reported a nine-mile tailback.

Last month, the A1 was closed for nearly two days after torrential rain collected on the road near Catterick Village.

The closure prompted renewed calls for the Government to upgrade a 12-mile stretch in North Yorkshire known as the ‘missing link’.
