TWO horses died and a man was injured in a collision on a major road in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, November 25).

According to police, the man was driving eastbound along the A64 at York when the people carrier he was driving collided with the horses at Grimston Bar.

The two horses died as a result of the crash at 12.30am and the driver, who is from Strensall, was injured.

His injuries are not thought to be serious, a police spokesman said.

The road was closed until 3am to await the work of a specialist recovery team.
