TWO primary schoolgirls have sprung a surprise by landing first place at the Northern Trampoline Championships.

Imogen Vollans, eight, from Thirsk, and Lucy Gardner, nine, bounced to success in the under- 11 synchro contest, at Ashington Leisure Centre, Northumberland.

Imogen, a South Kilvington Primary School pupil, also took second place in the individual under- 11 competition after being praised by judges for her neat and challenging routines, despite being the youngest in the contest.

The girls, who have been trampolining for three years since starting with Northallerton Gliders at Hambleton Leisure Centre, train three times a week with Billingham Trampolining Club.

Imogen said: “I was nervous doing my routine in front of so many people, but I was really pleased with the result.”

Lucy, a pupil at Applegarth Primary School, in Northallerton, said she was also delighted by the success.
