Middlesbrough mayor's letter to Prime Minister over cuts

Ray Mallon Ray Mallon

MIDDLESBROUGH mayor Ray Mallon has pleaded with David Cameron to show the town ‘special consideration’ in an attempt to minimise the impact of public sector cuts.

In a letter to the prime minister he states that Middlesbrough and Teesside will stand to lose funding of £229m and £900m respectively over the five-year period leading on from 2010’s Comprehensive Spending Review.

Middlesbrough Council alone will be forced to cut its budget by more than £60m by the end of 2015/16 and emergency services also face budget pressures.

Mr Mallon wrote: "The loss of such significant levels of funding over such a short period of time can only lead to further long-term deprivation and serious hardship, issues which will become costly, both in human and financial terms, to redress."

He added: "What is becoming clear is your Government’s complete lack of understanding and, indeed, compassion for this area, the problems we face and the long-term damage your policies are beginning to inflict."

Get on with it Mallon, we know its tough and you actually have to do something for a change.
- Decapitate the Council, sack the chief exec that's saved £200,000 pa. No taxpayer will miss him.
- Stop all discretionary overtime now.
- NO temporary workers, make the permanent staff cover the core activities.
- Cut all salaries by 15%
- Move all staff to a money purchase pension.
- No union reps to be paid by the taxpayer. Let the union pay.
- Remove ALL jobs with Climate Change, Diversity, Compliance, European & Political in the title. None of which do anything for the taxpayer.
- All Cllrs to voluntarily not take any taxpayer money. We will then see whose side they are on.

None of this is being proposed, so stop writing useless letters and do something useful

Stop hitting OUR front line services, leave cleaners, bin men, lollipop people alone. We value their service

In tough times we really see how good our leaders are.

Leaders who are tough with guts, imitative and true leadership qualities do great things.

Middlesborugh has Mallon.

Looney left, spend everything in the current account, spend everything in the savings account, max out the credit/visa cards then start borrowing and spend spend spend... yep ... Looney Left running to form.

The only letter this joker of a mayor should be writing is a letter of resignation as an abject failure.

I never said anythink about spend spend spend and not bother about the concequences, Spragger says he values front line services, Cameron doesn't,thats why there are not enough nurses, midwives, sold
iers, police, e.t.c., yes spending has to be under control but lets see some people who can actually afford to lose some money have their spending controlled ,i.e.bankers and the like put some money into the recovery instead of their back pockets!!! How can Mallon do anythink without any funding, the real clowns are fat tories like Pickles who could do with having his grocery bill reduced.
