A TEENAGER who lost a leg to cancer has been given more than £130 by fundraising Scouts to help cover the cost of prosthetic legs.

Kieran Maxwell, 14, of Heighington, near to Darlington, was diagnosed in October 2011 with a rare form of cancer.

He is now in remission for the illness but due to the illness he had to have his left leg amputated.

The youngster has now been fitted with prosthetic limbs but he will need further expensive false limbs as he grows.

His parents Nicola and Alistair, set up the Kieran Maxwell Fund to raise money for Kieran whose dream is to compete in 2016 Paralympic games.

Members of the 1st Shildon Cub Scouts have boosted the fund by £136.61 with a sponsored skip.

The Cubs skipped for one hour non-stop with skipping ropes in Hackworth Park, Shildon, to raise money for a new leg for Kieran.

Mrs Maxwell said: “I could not believe that the Cubs did this for us.

“We have met so many nice people due to Kieran’s illness and he was delighted that the Cubs did this for him.”
