A YOUTH leader has raised £1,000 for charity by completing the three peaks challenge on stilts.

Paul Waugh, of Brotton in east Cleveland, will give the money to the breast cancer ward at James Cook University Hospital and the Daisy Chain, a charity that helps families affected by autism.

Mr Waugh, who previously walked 26 miles on his stilts from Whitby to Saltburn last year, walked the three highest hills in Yorkshire earlier this month.

He said: “I work as a volunteer youth leader with Skelton Youth Centre, and when I saw one of our youngsters trying to walk on stilts, I decided it was a great idea for fundraising.”

Mr Waugh walked in cloudy conditions to the summits of Pen-y-Ghent at 2,277ft, Inglebrorough at 2,372ft and the highest peak of all, Whernside at 2,415ft in an impressive six hours..

Mr Waugh, who resides at Taylor Wimpey’s Hunley Manor development, explained the house-builder offered to match the initial £500 he raised and the developer also sponsored his previous 26 mile walk from Whitby.
