ALMOST £1.5 million worth of drugs destined for the North-East have been seized by police.
Officers from Cleveland Police stopped three Teesside men in Halifax, West Yorkshire yesterday (Wednesday, November 7).
The men, on their way from Manchester to Stockton, were found with cocaine worth in excess of £20,000.
The operation was part of a series of raids in the Manchester area, when more than 11 kilos of heroin and a quantity of cocaine were found at an address in the Failsworth area.
The total street value of the drugs haul was around £1.5 million.
Five people were arrested, including two men from Thornaby aged 21 and 22, a 34-year-old from Middlesbrough and a 23-year-old woman and 28-year-old man from Manchester.
Detective Inspector Dave Mead of Cleveland Police’s Organised Crime Unit said: “I’m delighted with the significant recovery of heroin and cocaine which I believe was destined for distribution on the streets of Cleveland.
“These arrests demonstrate Cleveland Police’s determination to tackle serious and organised crime groups and to bring to justice those who seek to profit from the trafficking of dangerous controlled drugs.”
