YOUNG train enthusiasts are invited to name a new painting set to go on display at a railway museum.

The painting, showing the Locomotion No 1 exhibit at the Head of Steam museum, in Darlington, is by Durham-based artist Steven Fox.

He was artist in residence at the museum earlier this year.

Museum manager Dave Tetlow said: “Steven is becoming a well-respected railway artist and has just become a member of the Guild of Railway Artists.

“We also wanted to ensure that there is a permanent reminder of Locomotion’s current location within the museum and Steven has captured this wonderfully.

“Darlington is a wonderful place for people to get involved in the arts and this project links Darlington’s railway heritage to its present day culture.”

Mr Fox has invited anyone under the age of 12 to come up with ideas for a name for the painting before it is framed and goes on permanent display in the museum’s Edward Pease memorial room. The only condition is that it cannot be named Locomotion No1.

Entries can be sent to the museum’s Facebook page or in writing to the museum by December 23.

The winner will receive a museum goody bag, a family annual pass to the museum and their name will be displayed with the painting in the New Year.

The painting can temporarily be viewed at the museum on an easel until January 2013.
