CRASH SCENE: Emergency services at the scene of the crash in Parkgate, Darlington, on Wednesday.
A FATHER-OF-TWO remains in intensive care after his car smashed into metal railings yesterday.
Robert Hume, 65, from Darlington, was rushed to Darlington Memorial Hospital after the incident, which happened at about 1.45pm yesterday afternoon, but was later transferred to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he remains in intensive care.
His blue Mazda 323 veered across both lanes of the road in Parkgate, in Darlington, before hitting metal railings opposite Darlington Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Hume’s 21-year-old daughter was also in the car at the time, but she was uninjured.
It is feared the man was taken ill at the wheel during the incident, which did not involve any other vehicles.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Durham Police on 101.
