New fishing platforms allows Darlington pond to cast net further

A NORTH-EAST beauty spot could reel in a haul of new anglers after the installation of improved fishing platforms.

Redhall Community Pond, in Darlington, has received the platforms which replace slippery banking and allow people of all ages to fish safely.

The platforms were fitted by the Environment Agency and Darlington Borough Council after requests by residents and youth club members who found it difficult to access the area.

The changes also include a larger area for coaching and will provide youngsters with the opportunity to go pond-dipping on the site, which was stocked with rudd, roach, tench and crucian carp earlier this year.

Fishing expert Dave Munt was on hand during today's (November 1) opening to offer children angling advice, and Councillor Martin Lander, ward member for Haughton East, said he was delighted with the changes.

He said: “Interest has rocketed since the ponds were installed and these new platforms and pathways will be a fantastic enhancement to the area.”
