Two arrested after man is knocked over

A MAN has died and two people have been arrested following a collision in Teesside today (October 31 2012).

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was a pedestrian on Stockton Road, between Middlesbrough and Thornaby when he was hit by a green Volvo travelling from Middlesbrough. He died at the scene.

The vehicle overturned during the incident and a passenger travelling in the car is currently in hospital undergoing treatment for injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at around 10.40am on Stockton Road, also known locally as the Wilderness Road. Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Andy Lawson of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on non-emergency number 101.

The road remains closed and will not be re-opened for some time yet. Police are advising people to avoid the area until further notice.
