Michelin star restaurant hailed for value
3:27pm Monday 29th October 2012 in News
A FARMING family who turned a run-down village pub into a Michelin star inn are celebrating after being named as one of the five best value restaurants in the country.
The Black Swan, in Oldstead, near Thirsk, which retained its Michelin star this month, also featured as 51st overall in The Sunday Times Food List, which gives a ranking based on reports by 75,000 diners.
Owner of the 16th century inn Ann Banks said it was particularly pleasing to score highly on value following diners criticising prices in some of the country's top restaurants during a time of austerity.
The Michelin Guide 2013 said the restaurant’s “cooking is modern and highly skilled, but satisfyingly unpretentious".
