Boycott called over safety fears of Chinese Lanterns

A BOYCOTT is being called for on Chinese Lanterns over Halloween and Bonfire Night over fears they are a fire risk to farmers.

The Country Landowners Association in the North is calling for action as it believes the lanterns are a fire threat to land, property, people and livestock.

The landowners group argues that the potential dangers the lanterns may cause outweigh any aesthetic appeal of the items.

Dorothy Fairburn, CLA north regional director, said: “Manufacturers and importers defend the products as an environmentally friendly way for people to enjoy themselves.

“But it is becoming increasingly clear they are nothing more than a potential lethal fire risk. I would urge anyone considering using sky lanterns to think again.

“Even open countryside contains houses, farms, farmland and woodland where people’s and animals’ lives could be put at risk.”

will we ever be allowed to have a bonfire or use common sense again in Britain or will we have to be told how to be total idiots?

These things are akin to releasing burning bits of litter to float away in the wind.
.
“Manufacturers and importers defend the products as an environmentally friendly way for people to enjoy themselves."
.
How are these environmentally friendly? They cause farm animals to die by choking, and the "environmental" frames take 40 years to break down.
.
Releasing these cannot be compared to having a bonfire or even having any common sense!

OH! PLEASE LETS BAN ALL FORMS OF ENJOYMENT...
why don-t we stop driving cars, stop fast food, stop drinking.....where do you get 40 years for the lanterns to break down...they are paper and wood..and a little bit of metal...what about fireworks?

Why have the leaders of the Muslim community not condemned these things? I think that's all we need to know.

Do you always repeat what people say ?,and believe them ?. Oh,and they DO NOT get stuck in fences and choke either. The only thing you got right here is the farm workers.

These things are a potential fire risk as they can still be alight when they come to ground... And no one has control of where they come to ground. I wouldn't like to think one landed in a bundle of dry hay, next to a barn full of cattle, for example.. So I can see the point put forward

The truth is livestock pick up the fine wire while grazing or eating silage & the wire after a period of time works its way into the poor animalsgut resulting in it slowly losing weight & condition & finally having tobe destryoyed,

If you enjoy Chinese lanterns so much i think you should go and get a life or live in China. They are paper and wood and a little bit of metal!! Let's hope you don't loose over 5 k a year because of these things!! Would you enjoy them that much if it cost you? I doubt it very much.

Lanterns have caused building fires
Lanterns have caused animals (cows) to choke to death on the metal frames and even the supposedly 'eco' bamboo frames have pierced the oesophagus of a cow
Lanterns are lethal to birds and wildlife
Lanterns have also been known to severely burn children too!

SO to all those people that think they pose no danger; I sincerely hope that your children, pets and livestock are harmed in any way when you release Chinese lanterns into the sky!

Oh yes and they are made out of paper and bamboo and be 'biodegradable/envir
onmentally-friendly' but they would still take up to six months to break down, BUT regardless of that, they pose a fire risk, and danger to animals, the moment you let one go!
