Last-minute preparations for musical production
FINAL preparations are being carried out for a drama group’s latest feel-good production.
Members of Darlington Operatic Society will begin a ten-night run of the musical Footloose, at the town’s Civic Theatre, on Wednesday (October 24).
A final dress rehearsal was held at the theatre on Tuesday.
Many of the 45-strong cast are new members of the society, which enjoyed critical acclaim earlier this year with its musical adaptation of the Titanic disaster.
Society spokesman Julian Cound said more than 4,500 tickets had already been sold and promised audiences a show to remember.
He said: “It has been a steep learning curve for our new members as they found out how detailed our rehearsal schedule is, but everyone has thrown themselves into it.
“When you have a stage full of young and enthusiastic people, it spills out into the auditorium and audiences will go away humming some of the songs, which are very up-tempo and upbeat.”
The show tells the story of a small town in the US, where the residents are living in the shadow of a tragedy, when into the community comes a troubled young man who lives his life through music and dance.
The show runs until Saturday, November 3.
Tickets are £18 for adults and £14 for children under 14, with a deal of two tickets for £32 available for selected performances.
